Dia Duit from Ireland! I'm currently on a very awesome trip to the Green Isles and although I have become a bit photo-logged out of sheer excitement, I've managed to get far enough along to get started with some photo sharing. As an attempt to battle out the notorious jet lag, I endeavored to pull an all-nighter (and finish my incredibly last minute packing) and sleep the entire way there as we would be leaving at 10am Arizona time and arriving in Ireland at 7am the next day. This plan could either have ended disastrously or be a complete success... and upon it's success I spent a good amount of time bragging about it to my fellow travelers |
So, we hopped off our plane (some of us well rested) after an incredibly unfulfilling breakfast of juice and a muffin top (some new way to save money on airplanes? Where do the bottoms go? The ducks?) and made our way to our first hotel to drop our baggage off at and find something a little more substantial to eat before hopping on a bus to our first stop: Trinity College, home of the Book of Kells, an extraordinary book that, sadly, cannot be photographed and is placed in a very inconveniently almost completely unlit room. |
Gaol just so happens to be pronounced jail, and we arrived at Kilmainham to learn about the great portion of Irish rebels/heroes who were imprisoned and killed in the jail. Although miserable, the jail was apparently more pleasant than the free life during the famine, and many Irishmen were found committing petty crimes just to have a meal and a roof over their heads. |
